Twilight Hike Series - Eagle Segment
This hike will include part of the EAGLE SEGMENT. We will hike the segment south to Stark Road, then hike off trail on Stark Road to the newer long boardwalk, head to Brad's Rocks and then follow the Eagle Segment back to where it crosses Stark Road, continuing on to the parking lot.
DETAILS: This 3 mile hike has a difficulty rating of medium. Remember to dress appropriately for the weather, bring water and a flashlight/headlamp. Hiking sticks might be helpful. Dogs are welcome must must be leashed and cleaned up after. Please bring water for your dogs as well.
Look for these phenological events* on the hike: Great blue lobelia, Gerardia and Monkey flower begin to bloom, American Robins are attempting a second brood, many bird fledglings about - look up (or down)! Ice Age tidbit: As average summer temperatures continue to rise, the rare northern wild monkshood and Ice Age relict land snails (less tha 0.3 inches in size) have made Wisconsin their home since the end of the last Ice Age by taking refuge in unique microclimates where cool air and water from persistent underground ice flows out of cracks in talus slopes on north facing cliffs. However, these northern relics will only continue to persist in Wisconsin if these rare and spotty refuges with summer tiemps below 50 degrees continue to exist. Climate change my affect the future of these timy creatures and this rare plant.
